October Outing Report – Dunbar

The October outing was held at Dunbar Golf Club on Friday 11th October 2019.

For the first time since the early nineties RHGC returned to Dunbar Golf Club for our final outing of the year.  Having hosted open qualifying events, the course was found to be in terrific condition and the stiff test of golf was more than matched by the stiff near Gale force wind on the day.

An excellent turnout of 24 players attended and the golf club was delighted to welcome along 3 new members in David Bryant, Kyle Wands and Alan Rees.

Playing a stableford competition and having won our first outing of the year at Gullane, Phil Millar continued his liking for Links courses by winning the Keeper’s Tankard with a fine total of 35pts. Runners up on the day with 31pts was James McCormack.

The ball nearest the holes winners were: – :

3rd – David Northcott (Guest)

5th – Jeffrey Bowles

10th – Thomas Grant

16th – Robin Graham

There were two 2’s recorded on the day courtesy of Jim Gordon at the 7th (an eagle) and Graeme Laurie at the 16th.

Closest to the hole in 2 at the 17th hole was won by James McCormack

The team competition was won by Jim Gordon, Brian Gillespie, James McCormack and Norman Maclachlan with 43pts.

As this is our last outing of the year, many thanks to all who attended each of the events. Information with regard to the presentation dinner and the AGM will be forthcoming in due course. If anybody has any suggestions of venues to visit in 2020 please get in touch with any member of the council.

October Outing – Dunbar

Dear RHGC Members,

Our final outing of the year will be held on Friday 11th October at Dunbar where we will be playing for the Keepers Tankard. This will be a one round afternoon outing, with tee off times being between 13:15 and 14:00pm.

The open championship qualifying course at Dunbar is regularly voted as one of the best in the country and a challenging links course, stunning scenery and friendly clubhouse all add up to make the perfect golfing experience.

We have managed to secure a fantastic deal to play at Dunbar, as a result the cost for golf and sweeps is £20pp.

Catering is not included in the price, but is available from Dunbar on the day should you wish to have lunch/dinner and a drink.

Golf Buggies

Golf buggies are available to hire, please indicate if you would like a buggy within your response.

Please reply directly to Brian Gillespie or Graeme Laurie by 4pm Thursday 3rd October

September Outing Report – Mar Hall

The September outing was held at Mar Hall on Friday 6th September 2019.

The Earl of Mar Championship Course and the A listed Mar Hall provided the stunning backdrop for the golf clubs prestigious outing of the year, where members were playing for the Centenary Trophy.

This was the first time that the golf club had visited Mar Hall and the challenging course combined with at times wet and blustery conditions provided a tough test of golf for all.

Playing a stroke play format Stevie Lugton mastered the course and conditions best of all and was the winner of the Centenary Trophy with an 87 less 12 for a net 75. The runner up was Jim Gordon with an 84 less 8 for a net 76.

Jim Gordon’s 84 also turned out to be the best scratch score on the day.

The tri-am competition was won by Alan Gray, Thomas Grant and Brian Gillespie with a net 68.

The ball nearest the holes winners were: – :

2nd – Alan Gray

10th – Jeffrey Bowles

17th – Duncan Rae

By way of an indication of the the tough scoring conditions, or an idication of the standard of golf on the day, no one hit the greem on the par 3 5th, no two’s were recorded on the day and no one hit the green in 2 on the 18th…. much to the delight of our treasurer who saved a  fortune on golf balls as prizes!

Our next and final outing of the year will be held at Dunbar Golf Club on Friday 11th October and is a one round pm competition.
